Did you ever wonder why USA spend the biggest amount of money on health care but still have low life expectancy compared to other developed countries. According to the research made by Harvard Medical School of Public Health, one to live longer needs to have a defined lifestyle that have well-defined habits that includes eating a healthy diet, taking physical exercises, taking moderate alcohol, avoid smoking and even maintaining a healthy body weight. 

 

One of the tips is about eating a healthy diet that includes taking enough vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, healthy fats, carbohydrates and even moderate proteins. Unhealthy diets such as sugar sweated beverages, red and processed meats, trans fat and even sodium related items were very much discouraged. 

 

Lack of physical activity

Healthy physical activity level is also recommended especially before the age 50. The recommended value is all about having at least 30 minutes moderate to vigorous activity per day. Proper physical activity tends to reduce the chances of having various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases or even respiratory diseases. However, intensive physical activity could have diverse effect on body mechanism which could even make the body go into starvation mode. 

 

Smoking

Healthy Smoking. there is no recommended level of smoking, healthy smoking here means “never smoke”. This because smoking is one of the worst enemies of life that can lead to premature death easily. It is normally known that smoking can cause over 50 diseases including cancer, heart diseases, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes or even COPD’S. 

Taking alcohol

 

Moderate alcohol intake. According to the studies made by World Health Organization, alcohol is one of the third preventable cause of death. Excessive alcohol consumption is associated to many negative effects such as liver damage, decreased immunity, dysbiosis just to mention but a few. However, it is recommended to take 5 to 15 grams for women per day and 5 to 30 grams per day for men, otherwise you can’t expect to live longer once you consume more than that.

A healthy person is required to have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.5. That’s to mean, it is an individual responsibility to keep making sure that his or her mass is proportionally related to his height. If not, you may end up suffering from obese related diseases or underweight related ones.

 

CONCLUSION 

To sum up, living a longer life needs nothing more than just trying to practice simple lifestyle habits such as eating a healthy diet, avoiding smoking, having enough physical exercises, maintain proper body weight and moderate alcohol intake of about 15 grams maximum, 30 grams for women and men respectively. According to the analysis made, people who met criteria for all those five habits enjoyed significantly, impressively longer lives than those who didn’t.
